Testament returns to Guilty Gear Strive with a second season of characters coming later

The Arc System Works Arc Revo America tournament has come to a close, and with it brings many announcements for the future of Guilty Gear Strive and more.

The final character for Strive’s first season has been announced, and it’s not what the majority of players were expecting. The gothic, scythe-armed testament is back with a slight revamp featuring a new waistcoat, ruffled jabot and top hat. Like previous iterations, The Elegant Grim Reaper’s attacks have long range and now have familiar demons to back them up in a fight. Testament hasn’t been on a Guilty Gear roster since terrorizing its competitors in Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus R, but whether they’ll be as dominant in Strive remains to be seen.

Alongside the release of Testament will be the arrival of a new stage, White House Reborn. Located on the grounds of the United States Presidential Residence after the events of Strive’s story mode, the building is being reconstructed and “has already been restored to its position as the center of government”.

Strive players will only have a short wait to get their hands on Testament and the new White House Reborn stage as they will be available from March 28 for PS5, PS4 and PC Season Pass holders and for purchase. à la carte on PC only. PlayStation players will be able to purchase them separately on March 31.

On March 28, Digital Figure mode also allows players to place characters, furniture, effects, and more into scenes that can be shared with others online. The character’s facial expressions can also be changed, image filters can be applied, and camera angles can be changed to add even more creative control to the mode.

Although it was announced that it would be associated with the character’s final release from the season pass, a Story Mode expansion will be released by the end of April. Titled “Another Story”, this new narrative experience will focus on characters that did not appear during the original Story mode.

All of the above wraps up the season pass for Guilty Gear Strive, but that won’t be the end of the new content coming to the game. Arc System Works has announced that a second season is in the works, with four more characters to come. in Strive in the future. Cross-play between the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC versions of Strive will be added at an undetermined date, with additional server improvements including better server connection times and network stability for online modes. It’s unclear when season two might start as it’s obviously very early, but it’s great to know that the game will continue to be supported.

Finally, Arc Revo will continue with the return of Arc World Tour, a series of global tournaments that has not been active since the start of the pandemic. Guilty Gear Strive will of course be a main game in the competition, but the upcoming Arc System Works DNF Duel game will also co-headline the event series. With the addition of DNF comes a partnership from Nexon, owner of the Dungeon Fighter Online IP on which the game is based, who will be sponsoring the 2022 World Tour Arc. Competitors who win the regional World Tour events will qualify for the World Tour Finals and will have the opportunity to challenge for a portion of a $200,000 prize pool ($100,000 for each of the two games).

Arc System Works is one of the companies involved in the upcoming Japan Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable, which takes place early Monday morning. You can read more about the event here, where we can find out more about Testament and Guilty Gear Strive’s future plans.
