Bethesda Game Studios veteran Emil Pagliarulo, who worked at the Fallout and Elder Scrolls studio for 19 years, shared a bit more information about Starfield. In an employee profile on Bethesda’s website, the developer said the sci-fi RPG is going to deliver “something really special” that will drive gamers crazy.
“To say that you’re going to create the studio’s first new IP in twenty years is one thing. To actually get there is another story,” Pagliarulo said. “It’s been so impressive to see Starfield transform into this incredible game, bit by bit, and with us covering SO much new ground.”
Starfield is slated for release in November on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Bethesda is confident the game won’t be delayed, and Pagliarulo said Starfield is far enough along in development that the systems have come together and gelled, and the vision the studio had at the start of production is now coming to fruition.
“There comes a time when you’re working on a game, and it’s just kind of a mess, especially in the beginning, because – newsflash! – that’s what game development is. But then, you get to that point where the systems really start to come online, and things start to work well, and gel up, and you see everything turn into the vision you had when you started this crazy journey,” said Pagliarulo. “When it first happened with Starfield, it was really like, ‘Oh. Oh wow. Yeah. This is…something really special. Players are going to lose their minds.’ Now we just have to finish it!”
Also in the interview, Pagliarulo talked about his many inspirations and the games he loves the most, listing titles like Spider-Man and Cyberpunk 2077.
“Thief is still one of my favorite games of all time. But I play a lot of games, of all genres. My Gamerscore is around 168,000, and those are just the Xbox games I play. So there’s always something that inspires me or it excites me,” he said. “I really like playing games that just make me shake my head, like, ‘Wow. I know how they did that, and that’s a crazy feat.’ The last Spider-Man games have been like that for me. Or Cyberpunk. Man, creating a giant, open-world environment like Night City? That’s no small feat. Really impressive.”
Starfield will launch on November 11, 2022 on PC and Xbox Series X|S. Like all of Microsoft’s other first-party games, it will launch day one on Xbox Game Pass, meaning it could reach more players than any Bethesda game before, even though it didn’t come to Xbox Game Pass. Playstation.
