Nintendo Life eShop Picks – March 2022

EShop selects March

This year is certainly moving on, and as we head into spring (for you northern hemisphere readers), we can reflect on some other great recent eShop titles. This month’s vote in the squad was intriguing, and we have three great games left.

These awards aim to celebrate the best of Nintendo’s digital store, giving some love and attention to games that could so easily be missed in Switch’s ever-growing download library. It should be noted that we focused on download-only games and not expansions/DLCs, so the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 1 was do not included. It’s also been a month with quite a few notable retail games, but of course it’s all about Online Store Games.

So let’s get started. Here are the best Switch eShop games of March 2022!

Honorable Mentions:

While these titles don’t quite make our top three this month, they’re definitely worth checking out:

A musical story (Switch eShop)A musical story (Switch eShop)

Editor: Digest / Developer: Glee Cheese

Release date: March 3, 2022 (United States) / March 3, 2022 (UK/EU)

It was very close with Dawn of the Monsters, but A Musical Story takes bronze this month.

Developed by Glee Cheese, this is a very unique take on the rhythm music genre. Visually and stylistically, it has a 70s vibe that is, well, sensational, but it’s also a game that puts the music first. The point of this game is to really focus on listening to the music, not watching a conventional rhythm track on the screen. It can lead to a bit of a learning curve, but the instinctive play can be a treat when it “clicks”.

Our review explains how it works.

Dawn of the Monsters (Switch eShop)Dawn of the Monsters (Switch eShop)

Editor: Go forward / Developer: 1 p.m. games

Release date: March 15, 2022 (United States)

Developed by 13AM Games and published by WayForward, it’s a love letter to the Kaiju movies.

As you can see from the art and all the pictures you see, this is a belt scroller that allows you feel like a big monster wreaking havoc. It’s all stylistically almost comedic, with decor designed to satisfy monster movie fans. It’s especially fun in local co-op and you can enjoy the powerful combat with four different characters.

It’s a pretty unique offering on Switch and we really liked it in our review.

FAR: Changing the Tides (Switch eShop)FAR: Changing the Tides (Switch eShop)

Editor: Frontier / Developer: vertical

Release date: March 1, 2022 (United States) / March 1, 2022 (UK/EU)

FAR: Solo Sails was a game that captured our imaginations in 2019, so the arrival of FAR: changing tides from the beginning of March was extremely welcome.

This time around, as the name suggests, you keep a large boat afloat for your journey, while managing and maintaining the craft to keep moving forward. Not only is the narrative extremely effective, but the presentation is also pleasingly good in this Switch version, from the great musical cues to the crisp visuals. We gave it a 9/10 in our review; below his conclusion.

“A wonderful experience from the moment you set sail, FAR: Changing Tides builds on the world and gameplay ideas of its predecessor with impressive scale, detail and moments of discovery. Okomotive began with its original polished mechanics on a left-to-right juggernaut, then took him in every other direction he could go.”

How we determine our top three eShop Selects: At the end of each month, the Nintendo Life team votes for their favorite titles from a list of games curated by the editorial team. To be eligible for this list, these games must have been released as a digital-only Nintendo Switch eShop title during that particular month and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select qualifying games based on their review scores.

Staff are then asked to vote for three games that they think deserve to be at the very top of this list. the first choice gets 3 points, the second choice gets 2 points and the third choice gets 1 point. These votes are then tallied to create a top three list, with the overall winner taking home the top prize of the month.
