It’s me, I’m avoiding the boss because I’m scared.

If you thought a 37 minute Ring of Elden speed run was the fastest time ever for FromSoftware’s latest Souls-like, think again. This fast-paced run was blown out of the water by a sub-30 minute completion, which made my head spin in jealous rage. What’s particularly crazy about this new time, however, is that it was made by the famous souls speedrunner distortion2. You know, the same person who crushed Demon’s Souls on PS5 in less than 20 minutes and posted this ridiculous 37 minutes Elden Run fast run.

It should be noted that it was Distortion2 fifth “Any%” speedrun posted on YouTube, meaning the only goal was to complete the game as fast as possible. Distortion2 has been tearing up FromSoft’s action role-playing game since its February 25 release. Their last time was 28 minutes and 59 seconds, which supplants their previous world records. It’s just crazy!

For this race of less than 30 minutes, Distortion2 sparingly applied the bad distortion problem, which spawns you in a different, safer location after saving and closing the game. jumping off a cliff to avoid mandatory death against the Grafted Scion boss at the start. From there it’s a pretty standard speedrun, with Distortion2 bee-lining Limgrave at Gatefront Site of Grace and unlocking Torrent the Horse, sometimes using the wrong Distortion glitch to reset aggressive enemies, then respawning at Site of Grace closest for a safer trip. With the ethereal plaza, Distortion2 scoured the Lands Between, hitting rest stops and ignoring just about everything else, including good items and tough bosses.

Distortion2 used The Four Belfries, an area in Liurnia of the Lakes where you can warp quickly across the map, but the second half of the run was just platforming in dangerous places, like Crumbling Farum Azula and Volcano Manor. It was an efficient route, as evidenced by Distortion2’s sub-30 minute time.

Kotaku has contacted Distortion2 for comment. Their Youtube channel worth checking out, just to watch them get a little faster with each download. the souls The speedrun community tends to have specific categories with specific requirements to complete the challenge, all of which are listed on Speedrun.comcorn Ring of Elden has no such stipulations again. Leaderboards won’t open on the site until March 18, so Distortion2’s latest speedrun might not be the fastest. But until leaderboards unlock and scores are posted, less than 30 minutes is the time to beat and Distortion2 apparently holds the record for the most runs right now.

In the meantime, I’m not even done with it Ring of Elden! I mean, I haven’t even beaten the pseudo-second major boss Godrick the Transplant yet since I just combed through the Lands Between for gear and runes, a testament to the immense amount of discoverability that FromSoft has integrated into the game. Get lost in Limgrave do I prefer Ring of Elden, but I also love seeing people go through the action-RPG as if nothing had happened. It gives me hope that one day, in a year or two, I could beat Ring of Elden myself.

Speedruns are getting out of control now. First someone beat the game in two hours without dying. Someone else posted a runtime of just under an hour. What’s next, someone knocking Ring of Eldencredits in 20 minutes or less? Maybe someone else beats the game blindfolded? Will the speedrun community relax? I don’t know, but I’m totally here for it.
