NASCAR speeds back to Austin with 3 days of racing and sideshows

Buckle up, Austin. NASCAR, the fastest American show on four wheels, will return to the Circuit of the Americas March 25-27 for a three-day extravaganza that promises to get your engine running.

Following NASCAR’s inaugural weekend last May at COTA, the stock car racing organization is headed full speed ahead to Austin, with this year’s triple power-driven racing title, featuring all three racing divisions, which is joined by an entertainment sideshow off the track. festivities intended to provide fans with even more exciting experiences.

We’ve got the full rundown of exciting events below. But first, let’s talk speed.

While this year’s NASCAR event at the Circuit of the Americas is sure to be less complicated than last year’s Cup Series race (which was red-flagged for rain with 14 laps to go, giving it the win over lead driver Chase Elliott in the No. 9 car), isn’t the only difference fans can expect.

For the 2022 season, NASCAR has released its Next Gen car package for the top-tier Cup Series, intended to level the playing field and make racing more democratic. Although the race teams are still working out some kinks, the NASCAR Cup Series drivers are taking it all in their stride.

“The car looks really impressive,” Ty Dillon, driver of the No. 42 Petty GMS Motorsports car, tells CultureMap. “Overall, with the new car, I’ve really enjoyed it. I think it’s been a great racing product. I think the fans agree too.”

The 20-turn, 3.41-mile COTA track also presents its own challenges, and as the venue for the first race of the season on a road course, it’s sure to confuse some race teams as they navigate a track that has only ever been a part of the NASCAR circuit. for a year, and with a new car. But that doesn’t stop these speed demon drivers from buzzing with anticipation to return to Austin’s world-class race track.

“I am very excited to go to this race. I’ve been preparing for this for a couple of weeks,” says Dillon, who comes from a legendary family that considers itself NASCAR royalty. “Last year, going to the race track, I was blown away by how amazing and beautiful the facility was. … To me, it’s one of the best places you can go and experience a race track. … Absolutely road courses are my favourites.”

For Dillon, who just joined the revered Petty GMS Motorsports team this season, there is much to prove and live up to, but he remains unscathed and excited about the opportunity to exceed expectations at COTA.

“Driving the No. 42… there’s a lot of history there,” Dillon tells CultureMap. “Petty GMS is going in the right direction. … Our group leaders will give us the right cars and everything we need to be successful. It’s just a matter of us putting it on the track.”

In addition to the overall exciting experience at COTA during NASCAR weekend, there are tons of new festivities of fun and entertainment to get fans excited.

As the folks at COTA put it: “While NASCAR drivers will continue to be the unrivaled track masters of the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix triple-header weekend at Circuit of the Americas… fans should prepare for a invasion of entertainment acts that will provide a circus atmosphere. to the parties.”
