Great odds for the Lincoln Handicap, Mile Stakes and Spring Mile Handicap when the Doncaster hosts return to their turf

Flat racing is back on grass this weekend and Doncaster gets off to a spectacular start with some 1 and 2 handicap classes on Saturday.

The all-weather weather continues, but turf racing hasn’t been seen in a few months and things are likely to be good or good to mild with dry weather across the country.

Flat racing is back with a flurry of races and top class horses that have also seen some action in Group 1.

Frankie Dettori will be at Meydan on Saturday for the Dubai World Cup along with Tom Marquand and William Buick, who have big trips for £5.3m prize money for the winner.

There is a lot to like about this Antony Brittain trained gelding.

Fairly consistent in all weather and has placed often this season, as well as taking two quick wins in the fall.

He has come fairly close since then to adding to those wins, finishing second at Newcastle in January and Lingfield (in a Class 1) by a neck behind One Night Stand.

Cam Hardie will be riding once again and he clearly knows this horse well.

He also offers the most value entering this race as the leading outsider, with Garrus, Diligent Harry and Bielsa leading the betting.

He hasn’t won this distance since November 2020 but has solid place claims if he enjoys the return to good dirt and grass.

Spring Mile Handicap Betting Forecast and Preview

Star Shield as of 2/13

This is one of the most open Class 2s of the day with the favorite still out at 3/1.

Star Shield draws more attention than most in this field for two main reasons.

Ridden by Jason Watson, the 7-year-old has won this course before, something the rest of the field have yet to achieve in the early stages of their careers.

But it also means there’s no question that the David O’Meara-trained horse likes Doncaster’s style of track, a left-handed gallop track.

Another reason to potentially back this horse is the form over the distance and he is only up 4lbs since the last race on grass.

Might as well prefer the slight cut in the ground with the trail still being called good to smooth.

Chindit on 8/11

Chindit, the horse trained by Richard Hannon, is the favorite for this Class 1 event and appears to be the choice of a field of four runners.

Rossa Ryan is booked to race and has had a great run of things, posting a 36% win rate over the last 14 days.

The jockey has won five of his 14 races in that time and it certainly makes it easier to back this favourite.

He, like so many today who are not suited to the weather, has not raced since October and last came third in a Group 2 handicap race at Newmarket over 7f.

This should be an ideal race for the colt, who swept the ratings when he scored a hat-trick in 2020, including on his debut.

Since then he has faced some of the biggest opponents in top tier races and should find this course easier to beat.

Amethyst on 1/16

The Cheveley Park Stud colors have been in form of late and were dominant at the Cheltenham Festival to win the Gold Cup, Ryanair Chase and Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle.

Ryan is also ready to ride for the William Haggas trained horse who has a light race.

He won a Class 2 in June last year by 3/4 lengths for No Nonsense at Newmarket over seven furlongs and is just 4lbs above that win having finished back in the field.

His last race over 1m1f in September was a big step back in the right direction as he placed third in a field of 26 runners.

Some horses prefer a race to get back on track after a long layoff, but Ametist also won both sides of a 314-day layoff and is therefore a great value in this field of great runners at great odds of 16/ 1.
