It seems Epic Games Store came in April and decided to turn it all around. For those who pay attention to free games on the Epic Games Store, it’s pretty obvious that the service usually focuses on smaller titles. That’s a good thing, because it often provides players with games they wouldn’t normally buy, and someone is bound to like them.
But the Epic Games Store shook it up a bit. The Epic Games Store seems to be following an old PS Plus model from a few years ago by offering one big game and one smaller, more niche game. The model works because it has the wow factor of a “big” game, but also the appeal of a second, which may have flown under the radar. With the Epic Games Store free games for April 21, this trend seems to continue and reinforces the current Epic Games Store streak.
Epic Games Store Free Games for April 21st Stand Among Giants
On April 21, players will be able to access Amnesia: Rebirth and Riverbond. Amnesia: Rebirth is a solid sequel to a beloved horror game franchise, with solid reviews and a strong fan base. Riverbond is a cute pixelated dungeon crawler, and its most outstanding feature may be its cooperative function. Free multiplayer games of all kinds are always appealing because they inherently bring people together to play.
One could argue that Amnesia: Rebirth isn’t as big as the other giants of the last few weeks, and that’s fair. One could argue that Riverbond would end up near the bottom, which is fair. It’s just personal taste after all. Still, compared to some previous Epic Games Store releases earlier this year, this selection definitely finds itself on par with games past the past few weeks. In short, Epic Games Store users should hopefully claim these free games, because this hot streak is well cemented now. This hopefully bodes well for the coming weeks as well.
Epic Games Store’s line of free games is on a roll
Just look at the list of games to make it pretty clear. Total War: Warhammer, The Disappearance of Ethan Carter, XCOM 2and Amnesia: Rebirth are all big wins for the Epic Games Store, while The Legacy of Thieves (which in itself could be considered a great indie), City of brass, impassableand Riverbond keep this charm of the typical Epic Games Store gifts.
- City of Brass (March 31)
- Total War: Warhammer (March 31)
- Rogue Legacy (April 7)
- The Disappearance of Ethan Carter (April 7)
- Insurmountable (April 14)
- XCOM 2 (April 14)
- Amnesia: Rebirth (April 21)
- Riverbond (April 21)
What is clear is that this Epic Games Store model works. Let’s hope it continues like this.
