6nm RDNA GPU, 8GB GDDR6, equal to RX 6900 XT in rasterization and faster in Raytracing, around 200W power and higher efficiency than NVIDIA Lovelace

The final details of AMD’s midrange Navi 33 GPU based on the RDNA 3 architecture that will power the Radeon RX 7700 XT graphics card were detailed by Moore’s Law is Dead in his latest video.

AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT graphics card to use Navi 33 RDNA 3 GPU with rasterization equal to 6900 XT, faster in Raytracing and more efficient than NVIDIA Lovelace

The AMD RDNA 3 GPU lineup will include both monolithic and multi-chip solutions. The Navi 33 GPU is considered a mid-range chip and is an optimization of the Navi 21 GPU on the new RDNA 3 architecture. It is based on a 6nm monolithic design and is expected to measure between 360-460mm2. This represents an 11-30% reduction in die area compared to the Navi 21 GPU that powers the high-end Radeon RX 6000 line and boasts a die size of 520mm2. The main features of the Navi 33 GPU will be:

After socket SP5, AMD’s EPYC Genoa processor with 12 next-gen Zen 4 CCDs on a 5nm node with up to 96 cores shown

  • 6nm TSMC Process Node (monolithic GPU design)
  • RDNA 3 graphics core (increased clocks/efficiency)
  • 8 GB of GDDR6 memory optimized on a 128-bit bus
  • Faster GDDR6 memory speeds
  • Equal or better rasterization performance than RX 6900 XT
  • Ray tracing performance superior to RX 6900 XT

AMD RDNA 3 Navi 33 GPUs for Radeon RX 7700 Series

The AMD Navi 33 GPU will launch the monolithic segment within the RDNA 3 family. The GPU will feature a single die. The die is very similar to the flagship Navi 21 GPU and is expected to use a 6nm process node for manufacturing.

AMD Navi 33 GPU architectural design ‘rumored’

The Navi 33 GCD should feature 2 Shader Engines and each Shader Engine has 2 Shader Arrays (2 per SE / 4 total). Each Shader Array previously had to consist of 5 WGPs (10 per SE / 20 total) and each WGP consists of 8 SIMD32 units with 32 ALUs (40 SIMD32 per SA / 80 per SE / 160 total). These SIMD32 units combine to make up 5120 cores, which is the same number of cores as the RX 6900 XT (GPU Navi 21 XTX).

However, based on the new numbers, the RDNA 3 Navi 33 GPU will feature a total of 16 WGPs or 4096 cores. Now, we don’t know if it’s the particular chip configuration itself that has been updated or if the new Radeon RX 7000 cards will feature a scaled down Navi 33 chip configuration with 1 WGP disabled in each Shader Array. It is stated that many structures in RDNA 3 are larger, smaller, or entirely different from RDNA 3, making the architecture an entirely new design rather than a revision of RDNA 2.

AMD 5nm Zen 4-powered Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” processors set to go into mass production this month

Navi 33 is basically going to replace Navi 23 on GFX11 architecture and we know that Navi 23 only has 2048 cores which is half of the amount allegedly featured on Navi 33. Navi 23 GPU has been featured on Radeon series cards RX 6600 so it can be assumed that Navi 33 will power AMD’s RX 7600 series lineup unless AMD wants to move their lineup up a level with Navi 31 powering the RX 7900 series, Navi 32 powering the RX 7800 series and Navi 33 powering the RX 7700 series. The RX 7600 line and lower would end up being based on the refreshed RDNA 2 6nm GPUs as shown here.

AMD Navi 33 GPU Features, Price and Performance

The Navi 33 (RDNA 3) should carry 128 to 256 MB of Infinity cache. The GPU would also feature 2 memory connection links (32-bit). That’s a total of 4 32-bit memory controllers for a 128-bit bus interface. As the memory has been halved compared to the 6900 XT, the card will offer lower power consumption. It will also help AMD reduce the BOM cost and bring cards with this performance range into the US$400-500 range.

As for performance, the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT based on the Navi 33 GPU should deliver class 6900 XT or better ray tracing performance, but given the reduced memory design, it will take a hit. as the resolution increases. So the card would be faster at around 1080p and similar to 1440p but will end up equal or slower at 4K and above due to the 8GB VRAM limitation. Ray tracing should be a big plus, with the card performing better than the 6900 XT. Now, 8GB might seem like a downgrade from the 6900 XT, but considering the price, it might actually end up being a great move that not only cuts costs, but also allows the card to be manufactured in larger quantities. without worrying about GDDR6 supply.

This would bring the performance of the AMD Radeon RX 7600 series above the RX 6800 and RX 6900 series to a TDP of around 200W (180-230W). There is also talk of the PCIe interface being Gen 5.0 with an x8 link and that doesn’t seem to be anything to worry about since both Gen 4 and Gen 3 x8 links can feed the card with enough bandwidth. Efficiency will be a very strong sequel to AMD’s RDNA 3 and the red team is going to have a significant lead over NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 ‘Ada Lovelace’ lineup which should be very power hungry, but there’s some things are also preparing for the green team that we may soon hear from reliable leaks.

As it turns out, MLID also shared what appears to be the first look at the high-end AMD Navi 31 and Navi 32 GPUs with MCM design and the respective Radeon RX 7000 series graphics card which will appear to feature high-end liquids. . designs cooled out of the box. The board render shown is a dual 8 pin design with a dual slot design and a 120mm AIO cooling solution. MLID said it will share more details about these products in part two of the ongoing AMD RDNA 3 leaks.
